The Huddersfield Model Aircraft Club were planning on an expansion carpark and access road across their airfield. The only planning permission they could obtain was for the area to be of a permeable surface and in keeping with the surrounding area.
The total area for the project was in excess of 1000sqm and the site was prepared and laid by local groundworks contractors Utley Excavations Ltd. The total area was scraped and levelled prior to a hardcore subbase being installed to a depth of 200mm.
The subase was then blinded with a sharpsand/topsoil mix and the Hexapath grids were then laid on top and allowed to settle. A few days later the whole area was filled with quality topsoil and lightly tampered so the soil was just below the surface of the Hexapath.
The whole area was then seeded and thoroughly watered in so as to bedd the seed into the cells. The area was declared out of bounds until there was complete coverage of the whole area and the grass roots had binded together into the base beneath.
